Blue Mountain College Sports Programme

Sports and cultural activities form a key part of the curriculum we offer.

Blue Mountain College has a proud sporting tradition. We co-operate closely with the local sports clubs to ensure viable competition in the district for young people.

Our students are encouraged to make best use of the facilities and the opportunities available to them, either at a recreational level or as part of a more structured competitive sports programme. A significant number of our students gain representative honours through competing in tournaments at provincial, regional, South Island and national level.

The variety of sports we offer ensures that all students can participate or compete in this area of school life regardless of their skill level. We hope this exposure encourages them to continue with regular physical activity into their adult life.

From time to time we are fortunate in being able to have school teams compete overseas. In 2000 our 1st XV travelled to South Africa, in 2002 we had a range of sports teams competing in the Southern Skies Tournament in Brisbane. We were visited by Corfe Hills High from England in 2003 and 2007. In 2005 our 1st XV toured the UK, which included visiting and playing against Corfe Hills. In 2008 we hosted Cranleigh School from England. Australia has also been a recent destination for the 1st XV in 2007 and a Sports Tour to Cairns in 2009, 2012, 2015 and 2018.

Our major sports are:

  • Rugby

  • Netball

  • Cricket

  • Tennis

  • Soccer
